There is no doubt that great tasting coffee, starts with quality coffee beans. To keep the coffee tasting as good as possible, coffee machines need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Over time, minerals in the water build up on the sides of the coffee machine. Despite this, coffee machines are fairly simple to clean. (more…)

Coffee on the go, cappuccino with friends and espresso in the morning

Monday, July 26th, 2010

It’s a fact that most people only begin to think about waking up once they are holding in their hands their first cup of coffee for the day. This pick- me- up beverage seems to have a slightly stimulating effect on the human brain. This is probably the reason why most people who have a desk jobs, enjoy a couple cups throughout the day.

88 DEGREES CAFE

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

This new coffee shop in the new centre in Waterfall is named for the temperature of the water as it comes out of the coffee machines. They use Mokador coffee and have a slogan on the back of the waitrons’ T-shirts: “Coffee Lover”.

On my first visit they produced an excellent cup of coffee with a faint latte art pattern and good crema. It was served at the right temperature and was flavourful, although not that strong.

I was most impressed and so visited it a second time. This time a hot, watery coffee with airy foam was served. It turns out that they have two baristas. One clearly knows how to make a cappuccino and the other has a lot to learn. I wish this new place well.

MAX INSTITUTE OF FASHION ART

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Max is an exquisite boutique that just happens to also have an amazing restaurant and bar attached to it.

The Mokador cappuccino – this is apparently the only place in Durban to serve it – was one of the best I drank on this journey. It had a beautiful taste and restored my faith in the art associated with cappuccino making. I would have liked biscotti with it, though.

The menu includes designer burgers and tower salads, as well as some innovative Sunday Specials.
